Grandma's Rocking Chair Whiskey
Traditional American Corn Whiskey Aged in Used Bourbon Barrels
Grandma's Rocking Chair is our take on traditional American corn whiskey—and the way we age it is what separates it from our bourbon.
We take our corn whiskey distillate and fill a freshly emptied McLaughlin bourbon barrel, allowing the spirit to pick up oak and bourbon character from wood that's already done its first job. Unlike bourbon aging in new charred oak, the used barrel contributes less wood sugar, allowing more of the natural corn whiskey character to remain front and center.
The result is lighter in color and less sweet than our bourbons, with a smooth, mellow character that's equally comfortable neat, on the rocks or in a classic whiskey cocktail.
Grandma's Rocking Chair is distilled, aged and bottled entirely at our veteran-owned distillery in Sewickley, PA. And yes, there really is a rocking chair at the distillery—with a barrel safely seated in it and occasionally rocking away.
This traditional American corn whiskey is perfect for sipping neat, on the rocks, or as the base of your favorite whiskey cocktail.
To make Grandma's Rocking Chair Whiskey, we take one of our freshly emptied bourbon barrels and fill it with our corn whiskey distillate. The used oak gives the whiskey just enough time with the barrel to pick up some additional character while still letting the corn whiskey shine.
If you've visited us here at the distillery, you've probably seen Grandma's Chair with a barrel safely seated—and you may have even caught it rocking. Now you can take the experience one step further and bottle your own Grandma's Rocking Chair Whiskey straight from the barrel in our tasting room. Fill your bottle yourself, take it home, and leave with a little piece of the process in your hands.
Corn distillate has a natural sweetness, but during tastings, people often expect corn whiskey to be much sweeter than it actually is. In reality, most corn whiskeys are less sweet than their bourbon counterparts. Even with very similar mash bills, corn whiskey spends less time extracting sugars and flavor from new oak, giving it a lighter character all its own.
Blonde in color and easy in the glass, drink enough of it and you'll be rocking with or without a chair.
