Barrel #1242 became one of those barrels.
Selected as the first exclusive single barrel release for our Bourbon Ambassador Program, this whiskey was chosen specifically for the people who already understand what makes our bourbon different. The people who have followed the evolution of 3799 over the years, paid attention to the small changes from barrel to barrel, and appreciate how much character a single barrel can develop when everything comes together the right way.
Like previous 3799 Single Barrel Select releases, Barrel #1242 began with our uncommon 100% corn mash bill before spending 6 years and 2 months inside a single 10-gallon #4 char barrel. That combination creates a very specific style of bourbon. The naturally rounded sweetness of the mash bill lays the foundation, while the extended time in a smaller barrel drives deeper oak integration, richer concentration, and a level of texture that larger barrels rarely achieve at this age.
Smaller barrels can be unforgiving. Oak influence accelerates quickly, and balance becomes harder to maintain over time. But when a barrel matures properly, the result is a bourbon with remarkable depth, structure, and intensity without losing drinkability. Barrel #1242 found that balance beautifully.
At 102 proof, the whiskey carries enough weight and viscosity to fully showcase the barrel without overwhelming the palate with heat. The nose opens immediately with mature oak, dark caramel, and seasoned leather before shifting into vanilla, toasted sugar, baking spice, and subtle char. Given a few minutes in the glass, deeper layers begin to emerge — richer sweetness, darker fruit notes, and a noticeable creaminess that continues to evolve as the bourbon opens up.
The palate is dense, oily, and coating in the best possible way. Toasted oak and caramel arrive first before giving way to vanilla bean, charred sugar, warm spice, and lingering sweetness carried by the 100% corn foundation. There’s plenty of structure here, but it never drinks aggressively. Instead, everything stays controlled, layered, and remarkably balanced from front to finish.
The finish hangs on with mature oak, seasoned barrel spice, soft sweetness, and the kind of long, developed character that reminds you this bourbon spent over six years earning its place in the bottle.
This release represents exactly what we hoped the Bourbon Ambassador Program would become — not simply access to exclusive bottles, but access to barrels and experiences that genuinely stand apart from the everyday.
